Gap Year Tennis will commence it's first year from 1 September 2009 and run through until July 2010. Gap Year Tennis will be organised into three semesters. In the first semester players will acclimatise at La Manga Club and work towards playing top level competition. Players will have the opportunity to play in the local Spanish tour events in the second and third semesters. Players will be guided, entered into and prepared for these tough competitions. Gap Year Tennis will offer the opportunity for any candidates who may be ready for the world stage, to compete in Futures events around the world. This will be on a selection basis. Futures events will be arranged for suitable candidates throughout the Gap Year from the second semester. Gap Year Tennis offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to players who may once have dreamt of winning Wimbledon but for many reasons were not able to concentrate or dedicate the time required to reach their potential in this individual sport. One win in a Futures event will give the player a World Ranking and automatic entry is then guaranteed into the British Tour events. Who knows from there? Gap Year Tennis aims to prove that British Tennis has plenty of world class players with dedication, skill and intelligence who may early on have had to accept or decided that Academia was their life's chosen path. It also aims to offer the system to help these players progress to their full potential. |
